Captains Chair ExerciseThe “Captain’s chair” is an ideal exercise for those who don’t have much time to exercise. I am a huge fan of fast effective exercises. For years I did not exercise at all, as I was convinced I didn’t have the time. If the truth be told, with a full-time career, and two young children to raise, I actually did not have the time to spend an hour at the gym (which would actually take two hours or more if you count the time spent getting there, then getting cleaned up after) and although I could have probably managed a 20 minute walk in the neighborhood most days, it was not something I could fit in every day without fail.

Now, even though my children are grown, and I have a lot more time, I still intensely dislike long exercise sessions.

Therefore I love it when I come across any exercise that I can do within a few minutes, i.e. between appointments, or take a short break from the computer for a few minutes every hour and perform the exercise.

The Captain’s Chair exercise is one such exercise.

In the video below, the captain’s chair exercise is demonstrated at a gym – however this exercise can also easily be done at home.

To do the captain’s chair exercise at home without specialized Captain’s chair gym equipment, use a straight-back ordinary wooden chair.  Place your hands on each side of the seat to support your body, and then raise your knees from this position.

Captains Chair ExerciseWhile this may not be quite as effective as using a professional captain’s chair, it is still a great abs strengthener, and by just doing this exercise for one minute a day (or 10 reps) you will quickly begin to see results.
